Fog in Delhi: 30 trains delayed, railways hints at temporary cancellation of many

The Northern railways Saturday hinted that they may order temporary cancellation of several trains in the Ambala division soon.

WITH MORE trains getting delayed due to poor visibility because of fog cover in Delhi and other areas, the Northern railways Saturday hinted that they may order temporary cancellation of several trains in the Ambala division soon.

“The situation is not improving. I guess the railways will order complete cancellation of some trains for a temporary period. Due to bad weather conditions, trains are getting delayed, which causes inconvenience to passengers,” said Dinesh Kumar, Divisional Railways Manager (DRM), Ambala Division of the northern railways.

He said the railways was monitoring the situation. On Saturday, around 30 trains of the Ambala division were delayed due to fog in Haryana, Punjab and also in National Capital Region.

Niraj Sharma, chief PRO of Northern Railways, told Chandigarh Newsline that railway board have asked all the railway zones that trains may be cancelled at the local level, if required. “We don’t want people to face inconvenience. This time local zones will take decision which train needs to be canceled.”

Among the trains delayed on Saturday include 15 trains passing or destined to Chandigarh railway station. Railways said trains were delayed by a maximum of 22 hours. A railway official said morning Kalka-New Delhi Shatabdi train(12006) which departs from Chandigarh at 6.53 am reached Delhi late by 55 minutes on Saturday. Several other Shatabdi trains were also delayed.

Railway officials said the Shatabdi trains which were cancelled for Saturday will ply from Sunday again. Air traffic at Chandigarh International airport was also hit by dense fog at Delhi airport. Airport officials said that other than the two IndiGo flights that were cancelled due to bad weather conditions, flights originating from Delhi were badly hit for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday. Among the delayed flights were those of IndiGo, Jet Airways and SpiceJet.
