Universal Pictures has moved the release of its “Dracula” reboot from Aug. 8, 2014 to Oct. 3, 2014.
The studio also announced it will release “Search Party” on Sept. 12, 2014. “Search Party” is the directorial debut of “Hangover” scribe Scot Armstrong and follows a pair of friends who embark on a mission to reunite their pal with the woman he was going to marry. Pic stars T.J. Miller, Adam Pally and Thomas Middleditch.
“Dracula” stars Luke Evans with Gary Shore directing and is looked as an origin story of the classic character. Variety recently reported that “Dracula” could be one of the first films Legendary Entertainment could co-finance as part of its new deal with the studio.
Besides reaching the horror demo on the eve of the Halloween season, another reason for the move may have to do with Universal’s “Fifty Shades of Grey” adaptation opening a week earlier on Aug. 1. Given that the studio would like young women to see both films, this move allows that neither films loses business during that frame.
