Samantha Barks has joined the cast of Dracula.

Universal Pictures' reboot, previously titled Dracula: Year Zero, will star The Hobbit's Luke Evans as the legendary vampire.

Les Misérables star Barks is attached to play a figure from Eastern European myth known as a baba yaga – a young woman who is transformed into a vicious witch – according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Game of Thrones actor Art Parkinson, Boardwalk Empire's Charlie Cox and Thor Kristjansson have also joined the cast, with Parkinson set to play Dracula's son Ingeras.

Dominic Cooper and The Amazing Spider-Man 2's Sarah Gadon are attached to the film, which was penned by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless and will be directed by first-time feature filmmaker Gary Shore.

Filming is due to begin in Belfast next month, with the movie's US release set for August 8, 2014.
