It looks like we really have to wait until 2019 to see Brie Larson as Captain Marvel.

The Oscar winner has been confirmed to be playing the hero in her own solo movie that year, although fans had long suspected it wouldn't be the first time we'd meet her.

When directing team Joe and Anthony Russo revealed last summer that Avengers: Infinity War would feature a brand new hero, many naturally assumed it would be Captain Marvel (since she'd soon be launching a solo movie).

However, Joe Russo put those rumours to rest when asked by ComicBook.com over the weekend whether there really was a chance at seeing Brie Larson in action in Infinity War.

"She's not in Avengers 3," the filmmaker rather emphatically insisted.

However, Russo didn't rule out Larson appearing in the currently-untitled Avengers 4 – which will arrive in cinemas two months after Captain Marvel is released. In other words, don't give up hope just yet!

Marvel Studios revealed at Comic-Con International last weekend that Captain Marvel is actually set in the 1990s and will see the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury (only this time with two eyes).

Together, Carol Danvers and Nick Fury will try to stop an invasion of the shape-shifting alien warlords known as the Skrulls.

Captain Marvel will reach UK and US cinemas on March 8, 2019, followed by Avengers 4 on April 26, 2019 in the UK and May 3, 2019 in the US.
