Marine recruiter named 'person of interest' in missing man case
A military recruiter was named a "person of interest" Monday in the case of a recruit who disappeared last year. Gunnery Sgt. Frank Lipka is being investigated as a person of interest in the case of 21-year-old Joseph Brancato, who has been missing since November.Brancato had been living with Lipka in Roslindale, which is against military rules."It’s like a bad dream. I can’t even believe this ever happened," said Brancato’s grandmother, Midge LeBaron.Lipka appeared in court Monday on charges that include assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of ammunition.The charges stem from an encounter with a delivery person in September 2017 and are not related to the Brancato's disappearance. LeBaron hopes the arrest will lead to answers about her grandson."Somebody knows something, and they’re not coming forward, and I wish they were in my shoes and know what I’m going through," she said.In January, Boston police homicide detectives and NCIS searched an area near Turtle Pond in Jamaica Plain. The search was in connection to Brancato's disappearance.
