This may not be the best of times for Akwa Ibom politicians as the state governor Chief Godswill Akpabio moves to consolidate hold on power. Our usually dependable sources indicate that the past couple of weeks have witnessed what one of them called a cat and mouse game between the governor and several persons and groups in the state.

One of the sources very close to the seat of power said that the governor has been in a frenzy tying to ascertain those who are still loyal to him and his administration and those who may have jettisoned him following the removal of Mr. Umana Okon Umana as the Secretary to the state government. The source maintained that there has been palpable fear within the administration of the level of loyalty the governor still enjoys in the state.

To ensure that all those who still come around him were genuinely loyal, it was agreed by the Ukana mafia that a revalidation of loyalty was needed. This has lead to the general resort to fresh oath administration that is said to be sweeping across the polity.
