Ikedife was born on August 24, 1932 in Nnewi, Nigeria; the son of Dunu-Ifeneti Ikedife Dunu-Ugochukwu and Ejeagha (Nzewi) Ikedife.
Ikedife received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of London in 1958. A year later he earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from the University of Glasgow. Also in 1960, Dozie was given a diploma in obstetrical from Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. In 1983, he received a Doctorate degree in Public Administration from World University.
Ikedife began his career as a senior house officer and registrar in obstetrics-gynecology at Stobhill Hospital in 1960 and had held it for three years. In 1964, he took a position of a medical officer special grade at Ministry of Health. Then in 1966, Dozie held the same position at Eastern Region. A year later he found City Hospital in Aba City and became its specialist-in-charge.
Ikedife was the first chairman of Community Council in Nnewi from 1972 to 1975. In 1975, he was the honorary commissioner for economic development at East Central State of Nigeria. A year later Dozie became the first honorary commissioner for finance and economic development in Anambra State.
In 1970 Ikedife was a founder and specialist-in-charge at Specialist Medical Center and Ikedife Hospital. Also, from 1995 he served as a reader in obstetrics-gynecology at Nnamdi Azikiwe University College of Health Sciences. He worked as an examiner in obstetrics-gynecology at the University of Nigeria, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nigerian National Postgraduate Medical College and West African Postgraduate Medical College.
In addition to Dozie`s medical career, he was a former president-general of Ohaneze Ndigbo and a presidential liason officer in charge of eastern states. He served as a delegate to the Centenary Conference of Nigeria in 2014 and the chairman of many Igbo groups.

In addition, Dozie was a member of Nigerian Medical Association, Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in Nigeria, International Society of Cardio-Thoracic Surgeons, Rotary Club International and Rotary Club of Nnewi.
Ikedife was married to Christie Onyebuchi Anazodo. The marriage produced seven children.
