First victim of deadly Florida high school shooting identified

One of the first victims of Wednesday's deadly mass shooting at a Florida high school has been identified as Jamie Guttenberg, according to WPLG.

Guttenberg, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, was killed when suspected shooter Nikolas Cruz, 19, opened fire with an AR-15-styled semiautomatic rifle near the end of the school day.

Her parents, Fred and Jennifer Guttenberg, were reportedly notified of her death on Wednesday evening.

According to a Facebook post from the victim's father, Guttenberg's brother, Jesse, made it home safe from school that night.

However, when the family was not able to get in touch with their daughter, they began to fear the worst.

At least 17 victims have been confirmed dead after the attack in what is being reported as the 18th school shooting in America in this year alone by Everytown for Gun Safety.
