West Brom players taking it in turns to pick pre-match music at The Hawthorns
Albion players are taking it in turns to pick the music before each home game this season – and their playlists are all available for all fans to listen to at home.
Matt Phillips, Kyle Bartley, Jake Livermore, Sam Field, and Chris Brunt have all picked three songs to be played at The Hawthorns prior to the five home games so far this campaign.
And the Baggies have set up a Spotify account where supporters can access their choices.
The idea, which has stemmed from the Junior Baggies group for young fans, gives supporters an idea what music the players are into.
Phillips went first, and mixed old with new. As well as Earth, Wind & Fire’s 1978 classic September, the winger chose two songs made famous by Canadian rapper Drake, this year's hit, Nice for What, and a remix of Do You Mind by British singer Kyla.
Bartley also picked a couple of rap artists, choosing Dear Mama by Tupac and Juicy by The Notorious B.I.G, but the centre-back may have revealed a penchant for karoake with his third choice, Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond.
Two of Livermore’s choices came from the 1970s. As well Hotel California by the Eagles he picked Eric Clapton's 1971 hit Layla. The most recent song was Luther Vandross’ Grammy Award winning song from 2003 Dance With My Father.
Field followed in Livermore’s footsteps and picked Hotel California too, as well as Beautiful Day by U2 and Suspicious Minds by Elvis Presley.
And the Eagles must be popular in the Albion dressing room because Brunt chose Take It Easy by the Californian rock band as well Mr Brightside by The Killers and Pompeii by Bastille.
As well as their players choices, Albion have uploaded a playlist of all the pre-match songs for the 2018/19 season including crowd favourites like The Liquidator and Ray King’s 1979 song West Bromwich Albion.
There are also playlists from the summer's inaugural Regis Shield match against Coventry City and the 50th anniversary match of the 1968 FA Cup victory.
The Baggies have made several changes to their pre-match routine at The Hawthorns this season.
As well as playing video interviews on the big screens before games, each match a young fan is picked to read the teams out to the fans, and former players are awarded caps for representing the club.
