What is the San Diego Circuit?

 

The San Diego Circuit is a service designed to allow library users from participating libraries to quickly borrow books from other San Diego Circuit libraries if the books are not owned by their home library or if their library's copy is already checked-out.

How do I access the San Diego Circuit?

 

Access the San Diego Circuit by going to http://circuit.sdsu.edu/ or while using any of the member libraries' catalogs.

 

What materials are available using the San Diego Circuit?

 

Items listed as "Available" in the San Diego Circuit are available for borrowing. Generally, this means books.

 

How long does a San Diego Circuit request take?

 

In most instances, items will be received at your library within 1-3 days.  NOTE: Weekends, holidays and calendars may affect the delivery schedule.

 

Items coming from San Diego County Library can take up to 3-5 days to arrive at your institution depending on branch location.

 

How long can San Diego Circuit items be kept?

 

The loan period is 21-28 days with 1-3 renewals depending on the member library's loan policy.

 

What are the overdue fines and replacement costs for San Diego Circuit items?

 

The overdue fine for items returned after the due date is typically $1.00 per day per item although your library's policy may vary.  Replacement costs are generally $140.00 per item.

 

How many San Diego Circuit requests can be made?

 

The maximum number of requests and checked out items allowed at any given time is 20.  NOTE: Items returned to your library will count against this limit until they are received at the owning library.

 

LINK+ and Circuit: Due to software limitations, patrons at the SDCounty library who utilize LINK+ are limited to a combined total of 20 LINK+ and Circuit requests. More items may be requested via LINK+.

 

How to check the status of a San Diego Circuit request?

 

You can monitor the status of your San Diego Circuit requests by checking your library record from your local catalog.  Items with the status 'RECV'D' are ready for you to pickup.

 

How to cancel a San Diego Circuit request?

 

If your local system allows you to cancel a San Diego Circuit request, you can go to your library record on your local catalog.  Click on the "Held Items" link.  If the item has a 'REQUESTED' status, you can cancel the request.  If your local system does not allow you to cancel your own request, ask at your library's Circulation, Check-out, or Access Services desk.

 

How to renew checked out material before it is due?

 

You may be able to renew Circuit material that you currently have checked out before it is due if there are no outstanding holds on the item(s).

Not on the San Diego Circuit or your catalog?

 

If you are unable to locate your materials on the San Diego Circuit or in your local catalog, contact your local library to request an Interlibrary Loan. For contact information click on Contact Us.

 

Can I Use My San Diego County or Public Library Card at a University?

 

San Diego County and San Diego Public library card users cannot use their cards to borrow material at Circuit member University locations in person. However, they may use the Circuit to request items from the member Universities for pick-up at the their local branch. For contact information click on Contact Us.

 

Requesting Articles

 

Currently, you cannot request journal articles through the San Diego Circuit. If you are unable to locate your materials through your local catalog or electronic databases, contact your library to request an Interlibrary Loan. For contact information click on Contact Us.
