2nd graders with student teacher

Each year, usually during the spring semester, Mintonye is host to Purdue student teachers. This year, Miss Allie Conkin did her student teaching experience in Room 15 with Mrs. Davis’s second graders. Having a student teacher in the classroom is beneficial for both the teacher and the students. The teacher (referred to as the Cooperating Teacher or CT) learns new things while the student teacher (know as the Teacher Candidate or TC) gains hands on experience. The student teacher asks lots of questions and makes the teacher think about why s/he does things a certain way. It's like a reminder to always keep learning and growing as a teacher.

Each year, the fourth grade at Mintonye Elementary travels to the Indiana State House for Statehood Day. Students see many different booths about Indiana. They meet President William Henry Harrison who talks about life in Indiana during his presidency. Also, students sit in the House of Representatives and the Senate seats to vote on a mock bill, and this year it was making pepperoni pizza the State Pizza. The vote was close, but it did pass. Please note that this was not a real bill. Students also had the opportunity to go view the courtroom and learn about our judges and our Judicial system. All in all, it is a great field trip.

Mrs. Swick's Students Make Area Robots at Mintonye Elementary

Mrs. Swick's math group has been learning about area. Students were asked to create their own robot. Once the students had designed their robot, they were asked to find the area of each part. Students then had to find the total area of their robot. Mrs. Swick's students enjoyed being able to create and learn about math at the same time.
