Another Friday's Protest In Iraq's Tahrir Square, Baghdad, April 29, 2011

Protests in Iraq's Tahrir Square, Baghdad continued on April 29, 2011. Press reports said that tens of Iraqis gathered in the central square of the capital near the Green Zone. They demanded an end to corruption, the withdrawal of U.S. forces, and the release of family members. One man held an election poster for Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s State of Law, with the picture crossed out, and “No, no to corruption” written over it. Family members were photographed holding pictures of their relatives who were being held in Iraqi prisons or who were missing. These have all been common complaints made by demonstrators in the country, who have been turning out in different parts of the country, but especially in Tahrir Square since January 30. The authorities have attempted to move the protesters out of the square, and used increasingly repressive tactics, but people are still turning out
