Rain started to fall in the UAE on Sunday - the day US President George W Bush arrived in Abu Dhabi on a regional tour. Here, Sharjah's Government Square looks like a lake.

Many roads have been blocked. This is Sharjah's King Abdul Aziz Street. The Emirates Highway - which links Dubai to Sharjah - is flooded at many of its major junctions.
