Hip-Hop Legends, The Roots, to Play at UA

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — For its second major concert of the school year the University of Arkansas Headliner Concerts Committee is bringing The Roots to Barnhill Arena at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 24. UA students may pick up their free tickets, on a first-come first-serve basis, beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the Arkansas Union at the Information Booth on the fourth floor.

Seating is general admission. No waiting or camping is allowed inside the Union for tickets. Tickets for the general public will go on sale Saturday, April 14, through Ticketmaster.

Students must present their valid student ID when picking up a ticket. Students may bring one friend’s ID to get a ticket for them. Students will also need to present their ID and ticket to get into the concert.

The Philadelphia-based Roots are widely known for their “hip-hop band” philosophy of focusing on live instrumentation in their concerts and studio albums. The Roots live shows are considered to be among the best in the business. The group’s first major label album was released in 1995, and they played the second stage at Lollapalooza that summer. In 2006 The Roots released Game Theory, their first album for Def Jam. An opening act is still to be determined.

The Headliner Concerts Committee is a student-led organization created by the Associated Student Government and approved by the UA student body to bring major name acts to the University of Arkansas campus. In February the group brought John Mayer to Barnhill Arena.
