Update News is a broadcast television news production that operates as a class in the School of Journalism & Mass Communications at San Jose State University. Students plan and produce a weekly half hour newscast under the guidance of professors with broadcast journalism experience.

Since its inception in 1982, Update News has been honored as the state’s best newscast more than 15 times, and students have won nearly 300 awards in statewide, western regional, and national competitions, including first place awards in the prestigious William Randolph Hearst Foundation national competition (from http://www.jmc.sjsu.edu/journalism.html).
