Jimmy Carter up for another Grammy

Jimmy Carter is once again up for a Grammy Award.

The former president, who announced on Sunday that he is cancer free after months of treatment, got his fifth Grammy nomination in a decade for the 2016 awards.

{mosads}The ex-commander in chief is going head-to-head against rocker Patti Smith, talk show host Dick Cavett, “Saturday Night Live” alum Amy Poehler, songwriter Janis Ian and actress Jean Smart in the Best Spoken Word Album category. Carter is nominated for the audio version of his tome, “A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety,” which was released earlier this year.

The former president, 91, has been nominated in the Spoken Word category seven times. He won a Grammy in 2007 for “Our Endangered Values” but lost a year later in the same category to President Obama’s “The Audacity of Hope.” He scored another nomination last year for “A Call to Action” — along with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) for “A Fighting Chance” — but the Grammy went to Joan Rivers, who had died five months earlier.

Carter announced in August he was undergoing treatment for melanoma lesions on his brain and liver. He told his church in Georgia this week that a recent scan revealed no remaining cancer cells, to raucous applause.

The 58th annual Grammy Awards is scheduled to air Feb. 15 on CBS.
