Creating Your Personal Web Page
InfiNet customers can create their own pages on the
World Wide Web by learning HTML coding and upgrading their accounts to rent
space on InfiNet's computers. This service is intended for personal or
non-profit use; the Web space may not be resold. The following
instructions will not work unless you have upgraded your account. Please
call 1-800-849-7214 for further details.
There are many steps necessary in order to create your own personal web page
on InfiNet.
Please make sure that you read this document carefully!
Where do I learn about HTML?
HTML is the language that the web is written in.
There are several places on the World Wide Web where you may learn about
HTML. Here are a couple of good starting points for you to examine:

How do I put my Homepage up?
To put your pages online now is simply a matter of ftp'ing them into place
and naming them correctly. Start your file transfer program, and open a connection to
larry.infi.net using your username and password. Now change to the
www directory and copy your files into it. Now you just need to make
sure that your files are named correctly.
FTP (Windows) and Fetch (Macintosh) software is available at the Surfer Kit FTP Website.
We recommend WS_FTP for Windows
and Fetch for the Macintosh.
How should I name my files?
Your files need to have a .html extension, so if they don't have that
extension already you should rename them. In addition, your main page
should be called index.html in order to be called correctly without
others having to remember the document's name.
What Is The Address Of My Homepage?
The URL to your homepage is as follows:
Be sure to replace username with your login id. This is how other
people on The Net will be able to view your page.
Can I Put Anything I Want On My Pages?
NO, you may not put material which may be deemed
objectionable or, in the case of copyrighted material, which you do not
have permission to display, in your pages. Nor may you resell your space for
advertising or other purposes of profit. InfiNet reserves the right to disallow
access to your pages at anytime and without notice.
Personal web pages are also for pages only, not Web programs. It is not
possible for you to execute CGI programs within your personal web pages.
This means that you will not be able to process forms or perform other tasks
that require our web server to execute a program. We are however working on
a way for you to use imagemaps within your pages.
Will InfiNet Help Me With My Pages?
Unfortunately this is one of the many ways we make our living and we are
unable to take time away from our work to help you create your pages. You
will find many fine resources on The Net to help you along your way. If you
have further questions, you might consider posting them to the comp.infosystems.www.users or comp.infosystems.www.misc
newsgroups.
