Epicurious Travel
Review: Massive, searchable, cleanly designed resource from CondéNet aspires to help travelers find the hot spots, get there as as efficiently as possible, and, once there, have the most fun they can have. Features (there was one on secret airfare bargains when we visited), weather updates, forums and contests.

Fodor's
Review: The giant travel guidebook publisher offers a terrific combination of fascinating destinations and practical details here. There's well-written material about exotic locales on every continent, plus a personal, interactive trip planner that allows you to learn about lodging and dining opportunities in each.

Microsoft Expedia
Review: Leave it to Microsoft to develop an online travel agency that offers special deals, and allows you to find the lowest prices. You can virtually tour different hotels, chat with other travelers about their experiences, and even figure out how far your dollar, yen, franc or whatever will go in the currency of the country toward which you are headed. A first-rate site.

Travelocity
Review: "Maximum power for the do-it-yourself traveler" is the slogan of this site, yet another slick, expensive-looking attempt to serve as an all-in-one travel resource. Features include: online reservations capabilities (busy when we tried, alas), stories on alluring destinations, travel merchandise to buy, chat forums, and last-minute bargains.

Internet Air Fares
Review: A great site provided by Destinations Unlimited, Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio, which covers most major American cities and offers daily updates of the lowest air fares available within the U.S. on all major airlines. You can also sign-up (for a fee) and receive the updates by e-mail.

Spectacular Travel Mall
Review: One of the nice things about all these agency links is that they're organized by county and activity. Want to go to Mongolia, Estonia, the Kyrgyz Republic? You're covered. A beer or music tour? Take your pick. But the regional data and safety tips will take you outside the site.

Travel Wiz
Review: The technology division of Avis Rent A Car is responsible for this assemblage of travel resources that include hotel chains, airline ticketing, vacation packages and not surprisingly, rental cars. Not the most comprehensive site, but a decent starting point.

World Travel Guide
Review: A very commercial site sponsored jointly by AT&T and Columbus Press. Based on a book, it points you to information about air travel, cruises, and tours. It also spotlights specific countries and points the way to tour operators who can show them to you.
