An Alternative World
This site about popular music, created by a high-school senior, rivals
sites created by bands and record companies. Not merely a list of favorite
groups, An Alternative
World presents a weekly Top 20 list of songs chosen using a "secret
formula." Sections called "The Summit" and "Hall Of Fame" highlight the
chart's top performers and
include lyrics for many of the songs. Visitors are encouraged to
participate in the rating, and there's even a fun contest. A lot of thought
and dedication went into the
creation of this site, and it shows in both content and design.

- Cyberpump!
www.geocities.com/Colosseum/4000/index.html
This combination of High Intensity Training (HIT) and powerlifting site is
not for wimps; but then again, maybe it is, since it offers tips on how to
start. Refreshingly the trainers here aren't focused on selling bogus
products or making unrealistic claims. The training is serious, but the
tone is light. Spirited and irreverent writing includes a "Follies"
section that mocks muscle mags and Hans-and-Franz types who just want to
"pump you up."

Here is a laugh-out-loud spoof of an ill-fated attempt to add lyrics
to the Star Wars theme. Lucas rejected the proposed lyrics, which were
definitely not as much fun as these:
Star-Wars-Talk-ing-'bout-Star-Wars/the-big-hair-y-guy-and-the-guy-with-the-g
un. They've-got-a-sword that looks like-a-flash-light/

Yet another vision: a television show. Here's the pitch. Two
roommates/pals, Janet and Chrissy, take in a third roommate, a wacky
guy named Jack. Janet and Chrissy's landlords, the Roper's, don't
approve of this situation and so Jack's sexuality must remain
ambiguous. The three roommates go on to become fast and furious
friends, though their days are filled with zany misunderstandings and
good, old-fashioned growing pains - all great fodder for the
television series. Years later a fan of this show will create a web
site. He'll call it Three's Company Online. Simple as that.

Killer Fonts!
Based on the actual handwriting of dangerous sociopaths (and graced with
names like DahmerBits and Zodiac Cryptik), the fonts here are certainly
distinctive. The site also includes fun facts and sample snippets from the
madmen on whose scrawls the fonts are based. Put that in your Palatino and
smoke it.

THE COMPLETE X-FILES PAGE!
It might take longer to scroll through this compendium of star bios, trivia,
and cross-references than to watch a season's worth of X-Files reruns. But
just in case not quite everything you've ever wanted to know about Scully
and Mulder (and such FBI- and paranormal-related topics as the Roswell UFO
crash) is here, the Paris-based page designer has amassed more
to other sites than the Bureau has leads on that mysterious sewer-dwelling
man-eater.

- Waybright finds his new writing home on the Internet in an e-zine
Retired Luray newspaper man John Waybright could be on his way to fame—at
least Internet fame. Since April, Waybright has been writing his familiar
column for the weekly Internet magazine called O Shenandoah! Country Rag.
The light-reading magazine has advertising spaces, reader-counted
circulation (estimated at 900 per month and growing) and an attractive
appearance.
Updated each week the magazine (or the e-zine as it would be on the
Internet) can be found at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/1293/
