Strong U.S./Canada-only encryption for Netscape Navigator, Communicator, FastTrack Server, and Enterprise Server

This option allows you to talk to sites that use a strong version of cryptography to encode sensitive information - such as a credit card number - that you don't want anyone to be able to capture and read as it is transmitted over the Internet. All Netscape products include cryptographic capability. However, if you are a U.S. or Canadian citizen or a legal permanent resident of the United States, you can choose a version with the stronger encryption always enabled.
Strong encryption refers to the size of the key used to encrypt the message. Roughly speaking, messages encrypted with strong (128-bit) encryption are 309,485,009,821,345,068,724,781,056 times harder to break than those that use 40-bit encryption. However, some experts estimate that keys much shorter than 128 bits will be safe for the next two decades.
The strong U.S./Canada-only encryption version is available in French and English to U.S. and Canadian citizens and to permanent residents of the United States only. Because the U.S. government restricts export of any product using 128-bit encryption, you will be asked to fill out an Eligibility Declaration stating that you are a U.S. or Canadian citizen or a legal permanent resident of the United States before you will be allowed to download the software you've selected. The Eligibility Declaration will be stored in a database and made available to the U.S. government upon request.

Additional Components for Netscape Communicator

Communicator Standard Edition is a complete suite of Internet tools comprising several components. You can choose to download all the available components at one time or in pieces. To make download quick and easy for users, the base version of Communicator includes everything you need to get started, including Navigator 4.0, Messenger, Collabra, Composer and NetHelp. You can always add additional components after you download the Base version by simply selecting Help | Software Updates from the Communicator menu bar.
If you choose the additional-components option now, you will download all available components at one time. The file containing Netscape Communicator and all its components is large and can take a long time to download on slower Internet connections. This option is recommended only if you have a high-speed Internet connection.
Base Install includes:
- Netscape Navigator for Web browsing
- Netscape Messenger for email
- Netscape Collabra for newsgroups
- Netscape Composer for Web page creation and editing
- Netscape Net Help
Complete Install With Additional Components includes
everything in the Base Install and adds:
- Bitstream fonts - The dynamic font support lets users view specific fonts and font effects on the Internet or an intranet. Designers can include font files with HTML documents or messages so that their pages appear exactly as intended. These font files are restricted for use on a particular site.
- Conference - Netscape Conference sessions help increase the effectiveness of workgroup, departmental, and cross-functional communication. They let users browse through documents, sketch on a collaborative whiteboard, exchange information, and talk in real time with colleagues anywhere in the world.
- Multimedia support - View and hear rich multimedia Web content with plug-ins that support audio, video, and 3D VRML. Plug-ins include LiveAudio, LiveVideo, QuickTime Player, Cosmo Player, and Netscape Media Player (for streaming audio).
Professional Edition includes all components in
the Compete Install With Additional Components version of the Standard Edition
and adds:
