Windows NT 3.51's method of establishing a TCP/IP connection to the Internet consists of using Remote Access Service. This Internet dialer is built-in to the Windows NT interface and allows a very stable connection to MindSpring.

To Install Remote Access Setup

1. Click Control Panel from the Main program group then double-click Network.

2. If Remote Access Service is not listed In the Network Settings dialog box, then click Add Software

3. TCP/IP protocol should also be listed.

4. After installation, a Remote Access Service program group is created.

To complete the RAS General Setup

1. Click Remote Access from the Remote Access group.

2. Click Add to create a new entry.

3. Fill out the Edit Phone Book Entry dialog box.

   Entry Name:	MindSpring
   Phone Number:	Your MindSpring access
   		number
   Description:	MindSpring Internet Access

4. Make sure Authenticate using current user name is unchecked.

5. Click Advanced. (If Basic is displayed, then you are at the Advanced screen.)

6. Select the correct port for the device shown.

7. Click Modem.Note: Verify modem settings. The initial speed (bps) should be set to 38400 or higher. The modem should be able to negotiate the appropriate speed.Make sure Enable hardware flow control, Enable modem error control, and Enable modem compression are checked.

8. Make sure Enter modem controls manually is unchecked.

9. Click OK, then click OK.

10. Select Exit for the Options menu.

To complete the RAS Network Setup:

1. Open the Network Protocol Settings dialog box.

2. Select PPP.

3. TCP/IP should be checked.

4. Disable Request LCP extensions(RFC1570) should not be checked.

5. NetBEUI and IPX should not be checked.

To complete the RAS TCP/IP Setup:

1. Open the PPP TCP/IP Settings dialog box.

2. Select Server assigned IP address.

3. Select Use specific name server address

4. Enter the following DNS and DNS backup addresses:

   DNS:		207.69.188.185
   DNS backup:	207.69.188.186

5. Make sure Use VJ header compression and Use default gateway on remote are checked.

6. Click OK

To complete the RAS Security Setup:

1. Open the Security Settings dialog box:

2. Select Accept any authentication including clear text.

3. Before Dialing and After Dialing scripts should be set to none.

4. Click OK.

5. Click OK in the Edit Phone Book Entry dialog box.

To connect to MindSpring

1. Double-click Remote Access from the Remote Access program group

2. The Entry Name previously configured should be listed

3. Click on Entry Name and click Dial

4. Enter your User Name.

5. Enter your Password

6. Do not enter a Domain Name

7. Click OK.
