FLORIDA KEYS RENAISSANCE FAIRE COMES TO MARATHON JAN. 17-19
MARATHON, Florida Keys - The sands of time turn back at Sombrero Beach when the 14th Annual Florida Keys Renaissance Faire combines jousting and chivalrous combat for three days of fun and fantasy, Jan. 17-19.
An authentic Renaissance wedding is to feature nuptials between a damsel and her knight in shining armor, while living chess games, trunk shows and rat pucking - a forerunner to modern day golf - are among the faire's other activities.
Also scheduled are comedic contests for adults and a knighting ceremony for children. Artisans from throughout the United States are to peddle hand-crafted wares, and a variety of foods including turkey legs are to be served up to the tune of live music. Seamstresses are to be on hand to dress visitors in period attire.
The weekend-long celebration is to be launched with a seven-course King's Royal Feast, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 16, at Marathon's Buccaneer Resort.
The faire is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Tickets may be purchased at the gate at a cost of $7 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and $5 for students ages 7-17. NationsBank card holders receive a $1 discount at the gate. Discounted tickets may be purchased in advance from Florida Keys Chambers of Commerce and Visitor Centers and select Florida Keys businesses. Advance tickets cost $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $3 for students. Children age 6 and younger are admitted free when accompanied by a parent.
Sombrero Beach is located off Sombrero Beach Boulevard, oceanside, at the mile marker 50 traffic light. Beachfront parking is limited. Shuttle service is to be available from 9:45 a.m. to 6 p.m., to transport visitors from the nearby NationsBank and Marathon High School parking lots.
