GeoCities Community Leaders
Do you remember creating your first webpage? Having questions and no place to find the answers? GeoCities is full of helpful people who don't want that to happen to their neighbors. They're our Community Leaders, and GeoCities (not to mention our homesteaders' pages) just wouldn't be the same without them! If you think you'd like to become a Community Leader, read on.

Community Leaders are involved with many of the following things:

  • Responding to members' questions by e-mail on matters such as help with HTML and GeoCities tools
  • Participating in fun committees for graphics, welcome teams, awards, seasonal activities, and more
  • Identifying great sites in each neighborhood for special featuring and awards
  • Helping new members get settled and helping established members improve their pages
  • Creating and running contests and awards for their neighborhoods
  • Creating/maintaining neighborhood community pages, packed full of information and help for homesteaders
  • Communicating with homesteaders and GeoCities staff as problems occur
  • Participating in neighborhood chat rooms and forums on an official and an unofficial basis
  • Testing new tools and programs before they go live
  • Creating/maintaining zines on the topic of their neighborhoods
  • Helping their neighbors understand and follow the Content Guidelines
If anything in the above list appeals to you, then you should sign up to be a Community Leader!
You'll find a link to your neighborhood's Community Leader application on the bottom of this page, or you can e-mail one of the current Leaders.

After your application is received, it will be reviewed carefully, as will your site. We don't expect you to have the "perfect" site, but it should demonstrate a basic knowledge of HTML, as well as an understanding of our Content Guidelines and the theme of your neighborhood. This process might take a few days or a week, depending on the neighborhood and when you apply.

Once you are accepted by your neighborhood's Community Leaders, they'll ask you to go through our Community Leader Training Program. This two-week training process, which is completed through e-mail and other online contact, will fill you in on anything you might not already know about GeoCities or being a Community Leader. You'll learn more about our tools and how to help your fellow homesteaders build and improve their sites.

If you have any questions about the Community Leaders program, please feel free to write to us at leaders@geocities.com.
