StormWatch7 is continuing to track areas of snow this evening into tonight across the DC area. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for the majority of the area where 1 to 3 inches of snow will be likely.

Snow will come down moderate to steady at times this evening before tapering to snow showers closer to 11pm and into the early morning hours Saturday. Watch for slick spots on the roads and reduced visibility at times in the more moderate bands.

The main event will get underway later this evening and tonight as an area of low pressure develops off the eastern seaboard.

Snow will become more likely along and east of I-95 with the heaviest snowfall along the Eastern Shore and into Delaware beaches from 11pm through 7am.

This system is expected to rapidly intensify off the east coast over the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, and will likely become a "bomb cyclone" overnight into Saturday morning as it moves into the northeast. The term bomb cyclone has been used by meteorologists for decades but has recently become more of a buzzword in the winter months.

Some models are showing some heavy totals for the beaches. Winter Storm Watches have been issued for the Delmarva Peninsula with the potential for 6 inches of snow or more.

Temperatures will be very cold Saturday only reaching the upper 20s with chills in the single digits at times due to gusty winds. As the system leaves, we'll see more sunshine Sunday with highs around freezing.
