CHICAGO-- ALA TechSource has launched www.alatechsource.org, a new electronic archive and delivery platform for Library Technology Reports (LTR) and Smart Libraries Newsletter (SLN) using MetaPress, the world’s largest scholarly content host. In addition to the MetaPress archive, ALA TechSource has rebuilt its core Web site using Drupal, an open-source content management system popular with other library Web sites.

Benefits of the new delivery platform include: more than eight years’ worth of LTR and SLN issues in a fully searchable archive; HTML (for LTR) and PDF versions; a wider variety of purchasing options, including electronic-only journal and article-level delivery; unlimited simultaneous access for subscribing institutions; plus new RSS alerts, saved items and other personalization tools.

“We’re excited about launching the new site, which has been in the works for more than a year,” said Patrick Hogan, director of ALA Publishing’s Online Resources unit. “Working with MetaPress gives us new ways to offer our journals to readers. The change to Drupal also creates new publishing opportunities. We’ve already been running the TechSource Blog in Drupal for several months and have been very pleased with its performance. Now it’s time to publish the whole site that way.”

Library Technology Reports, published eight times a year, provides library professionals with insightful elucidation and in-depth coverage of the technology and technological issues the library field grapples with on a daily basis in the information age—including social networking. The monthly Smart Libraries Newsletter delivers hard data and innovative insights about the world of library technology.
