Roman Gonzalez lost more than just his WBC super flyweight title on the night of March 18th against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai at the Madison Square Garden in New York. He also lost his mythical status as the best fighter in the world.

Now, he yearns for revenge.

"Roman really wants to get his titles back so we've got to wait to see what happens with Rungvisai and what happens with the WBC,'' said Tom Loeffler, the managing director of K2 Promotions, which has a stake in 'Chocolatito' for his Stateside events alongside Teiken Promotions.

Coming into the March 18th event, the WBC had ruled the winner of Gonzalez-Rungvisai and Carlos Cadruas-David Carmona would have to fight next. It's not clear if the WBC will stay with that mandate where the champion will now have to face Cuadras or grant Gonzalez an immediate rematch with the tough Thai fighter.

"I know that if there's any opportunity to get his titles back he would definitely want that," said Loeffler of the Nicaraguan star, who's record dropped to 46-1(38 KO's). "Most people thought he won the fight but unless he can get a rematch it's going to be hard to prove that."

This fight was a grueling twelve round battle that saw both men take leather throughout. Gonzalez was cut badly over his right eye from a clash of heads( which were frequent in this bout) and was bleeding profusely throughout the second half of the contest. It's clear that both boxers need a bit of time away from the ring,.

"Both those guys, Roman and Rungvisai went to the hospital after the fight. Roman got his cuts sewn up, Rungvisai was actually under observation in the emergency room. So that was a physically challenging and draining fight for both guys,''Loeffler said on Thursday afternoon.
