British rockers Catfish and the Bottlemen are heading to Newcastle this summer to play an open-air show in Times Square.

The band, who last performed in Newcastle in March 2015, have announced they will perform in the city on Saturday, August 27 with a string of high profile special guests to follow.

With their second album The Ride entering the UK charts at number 1 in June, a BRIT Award for Best Breakthrough Act and a series of sold out shows, Catfish and the Bottlemen are making 2016 their year and fans will be delighted to hear the group are coming to Tyneside.

SSD Concert’s Steve Davis, who is co-hosting the show with promotions giant SJM, said he can’t wait for their forthcoming Newcastle show and believes the announcement represents a real coup for the region: “We wanted to give the people of the North East some amazing events to remember this year and the July Times Square shows with Fatboy Slim, Ocean Colour Scene and Maximo Park have all but sold out, so now we can turn our attention to this.

“Catfish and the Bottlemen are riding the crest of a wave at the moment and North East Indie fans are in for a real treat; the new album is absolutely outstanding and it will be amazing to see songs from that performed in front of our eyes.

“The band are all about the live performance and we can’t wait to see them rock Times Square, which we believe is the perfect venue for them. The fact that they are 1/4 Geordie makes the show extra special for us.”

SSD Concerts has also confirmed that there will be a second special announcement for another live outdoor event to take place in the city centre on Friday, August 26 and advise music fans to stay tuned for more live music on their doorsteps.

Since forming in Llandudno, Wales in 2007 Catfish and the Bottlemen have released two top ten albums, The Balcony and The Ride, and have taken part in a series of tours throughout the UK, Europe, North America and Australia.

The band comprises of Van McCann (vocals/guitar), Johnny Bond (guitar), Benji Blakeaway (bass) and Bob Hall (drums) and are celebrated members of the UK’s festival circuit. They have wowed fans with their high octane performances at the likes of Glastonbury, T in the Park, Reading, and Leeds.
