With difficulty finding opponents, Ronda Rousey agreed to fight Charmaine Tweet — a Muay Thai champion making her pro MMA debut — at her weight of 150 pounds and in her home country. But a week or so before the fights, Rousey was with her sister in Rite-Aid when Strikeforce called and asked if she wanted to replace Gina Carano, who had been injured, and fight Sarah D’Alelio. Rousey, with visions of quitting her three jobs, happily agreed and went on a spending spree … only to learn that the promoter would not release Rousey from her contractual obligation.

ROUSEY: “I was like, please, please. I literally begged. ‘Listen, you don’t know what you’re doing right here. It’s not gonna work out well for you. I’m just telling you, man. Let me out, let me go do this.’ They didn’t believe me. So I was pissed … off. And I’d recently broken up with the love of my life. It was so sad. I was so sad and broke and mad … so I went to Canada pissed … off.
“And, yeah. I came out right away, threw her right away, then she popped up. I actually did like an inside kick … and then I threw her off the cage, went straight into a mount. She pushed off to try to get me off and then I spun right into an armbar. And then I jumped up and I was like, ‘I (bleeping) told you so!’”
