CAIRO – 12 October 2017: The Court of Cassation overturned the 25-year prison sentence issued against activist Ahmed Douma issued in 2015 in the case publicly known as “cabinet clashes” and ordered his retrial.

Douma is facing charges relating to protesting, possession of weapons and Molotov cocktails, assaulting members of the armed forces and police, burning public premises, including the headquarters of the cabinet, Parliament, al-Shura Council, and Ministry of Interior.

In February 2015, the Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Duma and 229 others to life imprisonment and fined them to pay LE 17 million ($962,468.26).
