Mahama committed to fighting corruption – Mornah

General Secretary of the People’s National Congress (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has lauded the cancellation of some contracts between government and the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Development Agency (GYEEDA) and some service providers.

“This is what I describe as very decisive decisions pertaining to the handling of issues of corruption. I sometimes disagree with the mode but I think that he has shown sufficient commitment to fighting corruption. He may not succeed in terminating corruption but he will go down as one person who came out, investigated and set up to recoup what for the first time we have lost to individuals and possibly lead them to prosecution,” he praise.

According to Bernard Mornah, the move by the government is unusual in the country’s politics hence the need to laud the effort.

The PNC General Secretary expressed regret over how some individuals and corporate entities were awarded contracts without due diligence and a legal framework.

He also bemoaned the mode of investigation which was adopted by the committee that investigated the work of GYEEDA.

“My difficulty is whether it was indeed appropriate for a ministry that sets up a committee to hand over the report without studying it. There were conflicting reports because someone leaked the report to the media…so I think that the processes were not managed,” he bewailed.

He advised government to ascertain whether or not persons and institutions indicted by the report faulted in their dealings, adding that the Attorney General can thereafter proceed to prosecute offenders.

Bernard Mornah recommended that the nation should not gloss over the rules of natural justice, thereby making people guilty until proven innocent, adding that the right systems should be put in place to retrieve monies.

The PNC General Secretary spoke on Radio Gold’s current affairs programme, Alhaji and Alhaji hosted by Alhassan Suhuyini, Saturday.
