Bing Pimentel writes musical play for Cory

MANILA, Philippines - Composer-song writer Lourdes “Bing" Pimentel has written a musical play about the life and works of former president Corazon “Cory" Aquino, GMA News’ primetime newscast 24 Oras reported Wednesday night. Dubbed as “Cory, the Musical," Bing, the wife of opposition Sen. Aquilino Pimentel, penned the play after she learned Mrs Aquino was diagnosed to have colon cancer. She said this is the “nation’s gift" to Mrs Aquino. "Actually nang ginawa ko ito hindi si Cory ang tinawagan ko yung anak niya si Ballsy just to inform her that I am coming up with a musical play as a gift of the nation to President Cory Aquino," Pimentel said. Miss Saigon performer Isay Alvarez will portray Mrs Aquino. "The musical features [the life of] Cory from [childhood] until about the time [she was swept to power]," Alvarez said. "We start when Cory is 75 years old. Then I go back to being dalaga mga 20 years old," Alvarez added. The musical would be directed by Nestor Torre, the report said. Also starring in the musical are Sherwyn Sozon as Ninoy Aquino, Robert Sena as former President Ferdinand Marcos and Pinky Marquez as Imelda."
