Huntington Bank buys 13 branches to Flint-area, Monroe, Muskegon in $500 million deal

FLINT, MI – Thirteen Bank of America branches in Genesee County and three other Michigan counties will become part of Huntington Bank.

The Ohio-based company will feature 11 locations in Flint and Monroe with two other locations in Holland and Muskegon after purchasing the banks from Bank of America for $500 million in deposits.

Last month, the company announced it purchased 11 branches in Saginaw and several other locations.

The company says roughly 40 new jobs will be created within the state, contributing to its growth of 500 jobs in Michigan since 2011.

Brent Wilder, associate director of public relations, said all Bank of America employees will be offered jobs with Huntington Bank.

"We are planning to offer a job to all the effected associates," he said.

The Flint-area purchase includes the branches at:

"Huntington's activity in Michigan over the past several years has not only contributed supportive investment by Huntington as an increasingly significant statewide employer, but also job retention and creation throughout Michigan as a leading business lender," said Stephen D. Steinour, chairman, president and CEO of Huntington, in a release.

Wilder said the location on North Ballenger Highway in Flint had previously been slated to close by Bank of America, but will remain open under Huntington.

He said any interior or exterior changes to the buildings or signs wouldn't happen until the deal closes, which is expected in September.

"There wouldn't be any changes prior to that time," Wilder said.
