 Niccolo Tucci was born Bartolomeo Stravolgi on May 1, 1908, son of an Italian father and a Russian mother. He settled in New York in 1938, where he wrote witty and sardonic novels, short stories and even once interviewed Dr. Einstein for the New Yorker(Nov 22, 1948). Many felt that Niccolo Tucci described himself in one of his novels, which began with this quote: "I was born before my time, when my time came, the place was occupied by someone else; all the good things of life for which I was now fit had suddenly become unfit. It was always too early or too late." His quoted advice to beginner-writers: "First learn to write as if you were already dead, and then you will discover that you can write as if you were still alive." On Friday, December 10, 1999, Niccolo Tucci died, at age 91, in New York City.
Tucci, a tad eccentric and a bit flambouyant, will continue to be missed by many, including myself.
