Niue is in free association with New Zealand, meaning it is largely independent, however New Zealand conducts Niue’s foreign affairs and its citizens are New Zealand citizens. Its anthem was adopted in 1974, the same year that self-government and associated nation status was granted.

The royal family of the United Kingdom is also the royal family of Niue; therefore “God Save the King” is also used in Niue as the royal anthem.

Special thanks to: Xavi Castellà for the music file.
