Our future First Daughter just got her wrist slapped.
Ivanka Trump’s jewelry company went into mea culpa mode and apologized after marketing the $10,800 bracelet the President-elect’s daughter wore during a “60 Minutes” interview on Sunday with her father and family.
“Please share this with your clients,” entreated Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry in an email blast released to reporters that pointed out that the pricey gold accessory is her “favorite bracelet” from the Metropolis Collection. The company was criticized on social media and by media outlets for turning a serious interview into a sales opportunity.
“History can now record that the 1st monetization of the Trump presidency was the hawking of a $10,800 bracelet,” succinctly tweeted @peterwsinger.
But change is going to come, Ivanka’s jewelry store assured. “This notification was sent by a well-intentioned marketing employee at one of our companies who was following customary protocol, and who, like many of us, is still making adjustments post-election. We are proactively discussing new policies and procedures with all of our partners going forward,” a spokeswoman noted in a statement.
The potential for Donald Trump’s global business ties to create conflicts of interest is an ongoing cause of concern. Trump’s solution to hand over control of his company to his children, who are also on his transition team, has also sparked concern. Ivanka’s closely scrutinized misstep — call it the First Gaffe — could be a teachable moment and a reminder that America’s watching — and not everyone’s buying what’s put in front of them.
