A Collection of Historical and Contemporary Photographs

Max Mannheimer Remembers

Projects sometimes begin in unexpected ways. In April of 1995 I attended the opening of an exhibit of Holocaust photographs at the Ramat-Gan Museum in the suburbs of Tel-Aviv. I came with an aquaintance who had created the exhibit and brought the photographs to Israel.

The exhibit was co-sponsored by a group of Israeli survivors who presented the creator with an engraved medal in appreciation of his efforts on their behalf. The ceremony should have ended there, but to my surprise and embarrassment they called me to the podium and gave me a similar medal. Our Israeli hosts had mistakenly believed I had helped create the exhibit. I started to protest, but thought better of it.

The Holocaust Album is my attempt to earn the little engraved medal I received from the Association of Dachau Survivors on that April day in Israel.

You can pursue your interests in the Holocaust through the many educational books and videos offered by Amazon.com.

The purchase of books or any other item through Amazon will help support this project. Thank you.
