The Irish singer, Butch Moore, has died at his home in the US. He had been suffering from cancer. Butch represented Ireland as the country's first ever Eurovision contestant in the 1965 song contest and came sixth with a song called 'Walking the Streets in the Rain'. The singer, who was in his early 60s, is survived by his wife and family. He was also lead singer with the Capitol Showband. The first ever LP recorded by a showband was called 'Presenting the Capitol Showband'. It contained mostly Irish ballads performed to a showband beat, but one of the most popular tracks was 'Silver Threads and Golden Needles', an old country standard.
