Diversity, Access and Participation Officer photo

Maozya Murray (she/her)

Diversity, Access and Participation Officer

Throughout my degree I connected with inspiring students and lecturers, and became increasingly involved in activism, including organising around industrial action and migrant rights. My role is incredibly broad, essentially improving Higher Education for students from marginalised groups (disabled, BAME, LGBTQ+ etc.). I can’t do this alone so I’m super keen to better understand the struggles of diverse groups, especially those I don’t identify with. Feel free to organise a chat, and find out how to get involved in building a better university!

Wellbeing Officer

My top priority for this year is working with the University and the Union to move their processes towards a harm reduction approach - where student welfare is centred in discussions and decision-making that could impact them.

Steve Jackson (he/him)

Sports, Societies and Events Officer

I'm Steve, your Sports, Societies and Events Officer 2023-24. I've just finished a 3 year course in International Relations and Development. The highlights of my time here have definitely been getting to know students and staff, and getting involved in efforts to improve Higher Education, including supporting industrial action. Before coming to Sussex I spent a few years working in the NGO sector, and for about a decade I've been getting more and more involved in political activism and social movements - I'm always keen to chat about these things, as well as any ways you'd like to gain more understanding of your Students' Union. This place exists to make Sussex a better place for every student. Come get involved!

I’m Niamh, your Student Living and Sustainability Officer. I studied Anthropology with Spanish at Sussex, specialising in Environmental Anthropology. I love working alongside students to bring about positive change we want to see at Sussex and in the world. My role covers some of the crises that students are increasingly worried about… housing, cost of living and climate & ecological breakdown and so I am always keen to hear about ways we can create a better future.I love climbing, frollicking in nature and having a gab with friends, so if you see me around, come say hi or drop me a DM :)

International Students' Officer photo

Riko Kunisue (she/her)

International Students' Officer

We as international students face unique realities here at Sussex, like isolation, exploitative tuition fees, lack of pastoral care, unfair academic experiences, and more. But I believe that we can make positive changes together and shape our University life with our own hands. If you are free, find me at the Activities Office in Falmer House and/or send me a message through any channels!
