Speaking to the press following talks with Secretary of State to the Foreign Minister, Latifa Akharbach, the Azerbaijani official voiced his country's support to all actions taken by Morocco in order to settle the Sahara issue. Azimov, who is on a visit to the Kingdom, expressed satisfaction at the friendly and cooperation ties between Morocco and Azerbaijan. He said the two Islamic countries share several common points, including the richness of their civilization and their proximity to Europe. "There is an economic complementarity between the two countries and a dynamic dialogue that opens promising prospects for bilateral cooperation," Akharbach underscored. She said the two countries undertake consultations in multilateral organizations, notably inside the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), in which Morocco plays a key role given the chairmanship of HM King Mohammed VI of the Al-Quds Committee. The talks provided the opportunity to shed light on the latest development on the Sahara issue and the willingness of the Kingdom to engage in negotiations under the aegis of the UN with a view to reaching a political solution on the basis of the autonomy initiative, she said. In this respect, Akharbach underlined that the outcome of negotiations depends on the political willingness of Algeria, denouncing the violation of the freedom of speech inflicted on the population held against their will in the polisario-run Tindouf camps (south-western Algeria).
