Rabat - Vice President of Colombia, Angelino Garzon, said, on Thursday in Rabat, that Morocco's proposal to grant autonomy to its southern provinces is a "positive" proposal to solve the Sahara conflict.

He told the press, following talks with Morocco's Prime Minister, Abbas El Fassi, that the Moroccan proposal is an option that "may lead to a peaceful settlement of this conflict, based on respect for the kingdom's territorial integrity." In this regard, the Colombian official, who welcomed the resumption of informal meetings between Morocco and the polisario, under the aegis of the United Nations, hailed Morocco's efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Sahara issue. In the same vein, he reiterated his country's political will to contribute, within the framework of the Security Council, to finding a peaceful solution to the dispute, which lasted more than three decades. He also described as "excellent" the diplomatic, economic and cultural ties between Morocco and Colombia.
