Morocco's autonomy proposal 'useful', Polish FM.

Morocco's plan to grant autonomy to its Southern Provinces, known as the Sahara, is "useful" and will help settling the Sahara issue, visiting Polish Foreign Minister, Radoslav Sikorski said on Thursday.Aa "We hope that a final and lasting solution will be reached in the Sahara, under the aegis of the United Nations, and we think that the Moroccan proposal to grant an autonomy to the Southern Provinces is useful and will help settling this issue," he told reporters in Rabat during a joint press briefing with his Moroccan counterpart, Taib Fassi Fihri.

AaAaAa "Following our experience in the Balkans, autonomy seems to be a solution that will help settling this issue," he added.

AaAaAa Sikorski, who voiced his country's willingness to develop cooperation ties with Morocco in trade particularly, said both countries are key-players in the Middle East.

AaAaAa "We hope that our very good bilateral economic relations will continue," the official said, wishing that a direct air link would be established between the two countries.

AaAaAa For his part, Fassi Fihri said Morocco is resolved to promote bilateral ties with Poland.

AaAaAa The FM, who described as "extremely fruitful" the ties between the two countries, said there is still "a strong potential to further developing them."

AaAaAa Poland plays a great role within the European Union and the NATO in guaranteeing stability and security in Europe, Fassi Fihri said.

AaAa On the Sahara issue, the official expressed Morocco's commitment to reach a solution to the issue under the aegis of the United Nations and on the basis of Morocco's autonomy proposal in total respect of the country's territorial integrity.

AaAa Besides bilateral ties, the two parties discussed issues relating to the union for the Mediterranean process and the Middle East conflict. AaAa Earlier on the day, the Polish minister met with the Speaker of the House of Advisors (upper house), Maati Benkaddour, with whom he examined bilateral relations.
