President of Belarusian parliament's foreign affairs commission supports autonomy initiative.

Summary: Rabat - The President of the foreign affairs commission of the Belarusian parliament Aleksandr Shakutin expressed support for Morocco's initiative to grant autonomy to its southern provinces, the Sahara, during a recent visit to the Kingdom.

Shakutin, who held talks with Morocco's Upper House Speaker, Mohamed Cheikh Biadillah , voiced support for the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco with a view to finding a lasting solution to the artificial conflict over the Sahara, the Upper House said in a statement.

Commending the friendly relations between Morocco and Belarus, Shakutin expressed willingness to reinforce cooperation ties between the two countries' parliament institutions through coordination and the exchange of expertise.

For his part, Biadillah underscored the large scale reforms witnessed in Morocco during the last decade, as well as the dynamism of political life enjoyed in the Kingdom.

Biadillah also shed light on Morocco's efforts to fight poverty, social exclusion, illegal immigration, international criminality and drug and human trafficking.

On the Sahara issue, the Upper House Speaker stressed the pertinence of the autonomy initiative as a just solution to the artificial conflict.

In this respect, he said the autonomy plan will pave the way for the Maghreb integration and the emergence of a regional economic grouping.
