(Baltimore, MD) Project MUSE is pleased to have completed the migration of 90 journals from the JSTOR Hosting Program, which closed recently following a grace period ending February 28, 2022. Forty-one (41) of these journals were already available on the MUSE platform to MUSE collection subscribers, and their publishers have now migrated both institutional and individual single title subscribers to the MUSE platform.

The remaining 49 of the migrating journals debuted on the MUSE platform over two years, starting in 2021 and then in early 2022. All but one of these journals took advantage of MUSE’s journal hosting services; one journal, Classical Journal, joined the MUSE Premium Collection.

“We are thrilled to provide a new home for so many not-for-profit journals, many of which come to us directly from scholarly societies and academic departments,” said Elizabeth Brown, Publisher Relations Manager, Project MUSE. “We appreciated being able to work closely with JSTOR to provide as smooth a transition as possible for these publishers and for the journals' subscribers.”

With the 2022 additions, MUSE’s hosted journal offerings have effectively doubled, giving libraries more options than ever on its highly popular platform.

MORE CHOICES, MORE CONTROL

Hosting more single title subscription journals, as opposed to putting all added journals in the existing collections, has allowed Project MUSE to give libraries more flexibility and control. MUSE closely moderates the growth of its flagship journal collections in awareness of library budget constraints.

At the same time, the new Premium Plus Package provides libraries that prefer to subscribe to all journal content on the MUSE platform with an easy, affordable way to add access to nearly all hosted journals in one simple step. The 2022 Premium Plus Package offers a discounted bundle of nearly 70 journals. Combining a subscription to the Premium Plus Package with a subscription to MUSE's Premium Collection of journals provides comprehensive, current access to every subscription journal from a lengthy list of distinguished university presses and scholarly societies, along with a wealth of other essential titles across the humanities and social sciences.

“Project MUSE strives to give libraries the best of both worlds---more granularity and choice over what journal content they want to add, but also the ability to continue to easily opt-in for access to the vast majority of our 800+ journals list,” explained Melanie Schaffner, Director of Sales and Marketing for Project MUSE.

Subscriptions to the Premium Plus Package are still available for 2022, with calendar year rates pro-rated to the activation date of the order. An updated Premium Plus Package will be available for 2023, with more newly-hosted titles. Hundreds of journals on MUSE are also available for single title subscriptions, allowing libraries to supplement their collection subscriptions or build a list that best meets local needs. A complete list of journal titles on the MUSE platform, including details on institutional subscription availability, may be found on our MUSE Holdings page.

Project MUSE has offered libraries affordable access to essential humanities and social science research for more than 25 years, as an integral part of the scholarly communications ecosystem and platform of choice for respected not-for-profit publishers. Currently, Project MUSE is the trusted and reliable source for over 800 journals and over 80,000 books, from more than 200 of the world's leading university presses and scholarly societies. MUSE also hosts over 4,000 open access books and several open access journal titles, freely available to anyone worldwide.
