BEIJING -- Plastic pollution is a pressing threat to the environment, with only a fraction of such materials getting recycled while the rest are dumped in landfills or even burned.

Founded in 2017, P.E.T. Plastic Ecological Transformation is taking aim at the problem with the services and products it offers in the recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) industry. The Chinese company wants to help its customers achieve "plastic neutrality," meaning that for every volume of plastic created, an equal amount of plastic waste is retrieved from the environment to be either recycled or repurposed at the lowest possible cost.
