Referencing is an important part of academic work. It shows that you acknowledge where the ideas you are presenting come from and demonstrates the breadth of your research and your ability to support academic integrity.
Here are some tips to help you stay on top of your referencing:
Know your style
Did you know that there are different referencing styles? Each style has its own rules and conventions. Check your course profile in Learning@Griffith to make sure you’re using the right one. Once you know your style, find out the details by visiting Griffith’s Reference Guides.
Manage your references
Record information about each resource that you use in your assignment. You will need to note the who, what, when and where of every resource according to the referencing style you’re using. Also take note of the resource type: is it a book, journal article or website?
Prepare your reference list and proofread
Once you have your reference list put together, refer to the Reference Guides to make sure your list complies with the rules of your reference style. Are your references in the correct order? Have you included all the information you need about each resource? Have you formatted your list properly?
