| Summary |
"'Our Need for Consolation is Insatiable' by Swedish writer Stig Dagerman (1923-1954). Channeling the fear and disillusion of postwar Europe, Stig Dagerman became a literary sensation publishing novels, short stories, plays and journalism in rapid succession. Then, suddenly he fell silent. Two years later, he was found dead in his car; he was 31 years old. Combining techniques of documentary and narrative filmmaking, and featuring Stellan Skarsgård as an on-camera narrator, this film is based on Dagerman's essay 'Our Need for Consolation.' It examines the creative process of the writer, his personal struggles with depression, the meaning of freedom and the beauty that makes life worth living."--Container. |
