On Problems vs. Questions in Competitive Programming: My solution _TL;DR: The most reasonable solution to the problems vs. questions debate is to use none of the currently accepted terms._ As we have seen many times, particularly over the past few days, the task of assigning a label to the activities we perform as competitive programmers is a bigger problem than one might think at first. Time and time again we have seen people questioning what we should call our activities, often to the point of eliciting some rather harsh responses. To give some context to this discussion, I will focus on two of the terms that members of the community have adopted over the years, _problems_ and _questions_. (Sorry task lovers! You have some fine points for sure, we frequently talk about subtasks rather than subproblems or subquestions after all :P). All quotations here are posted anonymously, but if you want to claim ownership of one of them or have one removed, just tell me. If you are familiar with the arguments, feel free to skip to the final section of the...
first screenshot is enough. "question" instead of "problem" or "task" — Indian detected. > Wat? No

[Blogpost] Indian ICPC 2019 Experience Hi everyone, I started writing a blog on my experience at the Indian ICPC Regionals of 2019-20 (the previous season as of this post) slightly more than a year back [here](https://codeforces.com/blog/entry/76290). I stopped after 2 blogposts due to various reasons: World Finals not happening, our team losing interest in CP in general, and I kind of wanted to finish the series after the whole season arc was completed. With both my teammates retiring before this season and World Finals finally looking possible in October, I decided to revive it, so I would be able to publish a final post after WF and be done with this season :D. This seemed like the best time to post, since Amrita regionals has it's online round on 10th July, so many teams would probably be up-solving old regionals, and it might be interesting to compare how you performed vs how we did in the contest setting &mdash; what mistakes we made, and what you should avoid. It's also a nice way to preserve my memories, and to h...

Live the Indian IOI Training Camp experience with CodeChef this week! Competitive Programming is all about the thrill of pitting yourselves against other coders and seeing who comes out on top. And in general, there’s nothing quite as fun for our community as putting on our coding hats and flexing our fingers over our keyboards and getting down to solve an interesting problem. But competitive programming, like every sport, also has its World Cups. And for the CP community, the International Olympiad in Informatics is one such event that we all look forward to, not only as players but also as spectators. An annual competition that began in 1989 in Bulgaria, the IOI has risen from its humble beginnings to become one of the largest worldwide competitions for secondary school students that tests their skills in programming and problem solving. Only the very best make it to the IOI Training Camps and eventually, the finals. Many of us have always wanted to see what the competition is like but the chance is given only to a select and deserving few. Fortu...

SnackDown 2021 is back! Registrations are now open Hi There! I am so glad to announce that after a brief gap, SnackDown, CodeChef's global annual programming contest, is back this year! The pandemic created a big gap, but we are glad that we could make it happen now. The announcement went yesterday, and today I am messaging to invite your registrations for SnackDown 2021. Yes, the registrations are open and will end on October 19th. There is one important change this year, w.r.t SnackDown &mdash; SnackDown 2021 will be an individual-participant contest and not a team competition. Why this change? With the current restrictions of maintaining social distancing, we deemed it imprudent to conduct the contest in a team setup. While we feel that team collaboration makes SnackDown a unique event, we believe it’s safer not to risk the health and safety of our participants. We will revert to team-based competition in the next iteration of SnackDown. A few important details, I want you to note: Registrations are open now a...
and will be closed on October 19th. - The first Online Qualifier Round will be from Oct 15th

In spite of this, recently I feel Codeforces contest time is too biased and it's difficult to participate or enjoy for some country. For example, Codeforces Round #434 started at 13:05 UTC, Round #433 started at 12:55 UTC and Round #432 started at 14:35 UTC. It have only around 3 hours difference between "the earliest of the 3" and "the latest of the 3".<br /> This is also an answer of "why I wrote this blog".<br /> <br /> ### 2 &mdash; Codeforces Time Distribution Graph First, to investigate actual codeforces time, I searched **recent 100** contests time and made a distribution graph.<br /> <br /> ![ ](/predownloaded/5b/2e/5b2e211ee119df76863f25a7d593cf152697ed84.png)<br /> <br /> ### 3 &mdash; Problem Recently, I found that Codeforces Contest times are biased and they're difficult to participate...
for some country. For example, Codeforces Round #434 started at 13:05 UTC, Round #433 started at 12

ICPC Rules Hi everyone! Recently the Indian ICPC online round was held and 2 teams from my institute were caught in plagiarism and for some weird reason the computer science department of our institute is withdrawing the candidature of ALL the teams from our institute. They have asked all the coaches to withdraw the coaching privilege. So I just want to ask, if there is any way for us to participate in the regionals without a coach or maybe something else that we could do? While I know the indians regionals are known to be a total mess, I just want to request the non-indians to not laugh over this and suggest some way if they know.

Daylight saving time ends! Daylight saving time has ended for this year. There will be a 1 hour time change for many countries. So pay extra attention to the contest timings in your local timezone. Happy coding! PS : For Indian participants, the regular CF rounds will start from 10 pm instead of 9 pm. Yay! Edit : Here I am telling everyone to be careful about contest timings while comfortably forgetting myself. I saw the time for today's SRM (638) a week before and never bothered to check again. Result, I woke up at 6:15 am thinking that the SRM would start at 6:30 am while actually it was to start at 7:30 am. Damn you daylight saving!!

Language barrier in Czech Republic Recently I had a talk with my Indian friend who had moved to Czech Republic a while back. [2 years to be specific] He seems to have a great interest in Informatics Olympiad but as the task statements in the preliminary rounds are solely in Czech [and as he is not familiar with the language for some obvious reasons] he is not allowed to take part in the olympiad. most of you guys might be thinking of a one obvious response by him, to mail them for the translation in English. But here's the catch, They literally refused to translate the problem statement with an absurd reason "the extra effort wouldn't be justified" I don't believe that Czech is an easy language to get fluent at within 4 years when you have to prepare for the olympiad on the side. it's just not IOI, every competition the Czech republic participates in, IOI, IMO etc, all of their selection rounds are in Czech He kept emailing them but they just stuck with the statement that they are not going to translate ...

An awesome list for competitive programming! This is a project I started from late January 2016. My motive is that: Although there's fantastic information out there, I think they're still spread all over the place. Therefore, in my opinion it would probably be cool if there's an [awesome list](https://github.com/sindresorhus/awesome) for competitive programming! Please help me with my problem Hello, my name is Suhana and my life became a nightmare. I was a student at Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, during that time I was studying hard, ignoring all parties and cf rounds. Just after graduation my boyfriend Kumar and I have decided to go to the nearest pub and celebrate my successful graduation. This was a huge mistake, I remember how we entered the pub and don't remember anything that happened after. Nine months later I gave birth to my son Rishabh. Kumar wasn't ready for kids, so he left me alnoe with my baby. In order to raise a child I need money badly. I have diploma in Computer Science, but my CF rating is poor (I dedicated myself to studies and had no time for CF). As you may already know, having high CF rank in order to get a job in India is a must. Clearly, I don't have time for participating in CF rounds, but I need the job. I would be so thankful, if someone could sell me his/her yellow profile (or better). I am ready to give 25000 INR (around 350 USD...

Scaler Academy Review with Proof Hello community, I am one of the ex-Scaler students from the April Batch. I got a job from Campus Placement and I got only one referral in the entire one year. Sadly, I need to pay them, hence I wanted to make people aware of some facts backed with proof, so that they do-not fall into this trap. I have seen a lot of things written about Scaler in the recent month. Scaler came out in public with a video on "[What we do and Why we do](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faGIKYparWA&t=14s)", where they said their curriculum is focused on learning and not on jobs. But they end up getting disappointed, like most of us in our did. In India, rarely people will come out in open to speak, because no-one wants to risk their future, so do I. People join such courses thinking that we do not need to pay now, we will pay when we get job. Hence they just join without giving it a second thought. But the main disappointment starts when you start paying installments for 24 months without getting any ...

Yellow handle for sale Hi After years of doing Competitive Programming I decided to quite the world of CP, It's a decision I made to have time for other more important things. I wanted to make this step a long time back, but every time I get weak and participate in DIV.1 rounds, I want to end this once and for ever by selling my handle, I read [this](https://codeforces.com/blog/entry/63194) blog, and checked the comments in [this](https://codeforces.com/blog/entry/63137) and I see that many Indians are in need to buy high rated handles. Currently I am yellow, with rating ~2300 If anyone before soled his/her handle, Can you tell me how much can I get for it??? Also if anyone is interested in buying my handle, please send me a message. Farewell World of CP, you will be missed. P.S: I am writing from a fake account because I don't want to spoil the one who will buy my yellow account.

[Feature Request] Report Code as Cheating Since a really huge number of cheating taking place in CF nowadays in every round, this "Report Code" feature for stopping and removing cheaters from this platform is much needed. Just look at this screenshot below. A youtube channel and their views for the solution of a problem during the contest. <br> <img src="https://i.ibb.co/0CxHd3m/Screenshot-2022-09-26-103532.png"> </img> <br> This is just a single youtube channel. There are tons of other youtube and telegram channels who does it on a daily basis. <br> Even if half of the people shown in this picture cheat in the contest then it's huge. Especially people like pupils who are rated like 1200-1300 suffer a lot due to this. An increased number of solutions on problem C specially, says how cheating is spreading like fire. Please stop this thing. Don't be an Indian who cheats. Be the one who is genuinely good. I am really sad and frustrated about this happening every fucking day.

CodeChef — ICPC: Why do you even care? **Teams solving 2 questions and not qualified:** You seem to be the ones bitching the most. Let's get real. This contest is meant for choosing the best Indian teams we can find for world's, and not to appease your egos. While ICPC does try to maximize college participation (which is why the first 2 questions even exist. What? Were you feeling very accomplished after solving those?), **the overall goal of the contests is to identify the best possible teams.** Any decent team would have probably solved **atleast** one of the last 3 questions Yes, people have bad days sometimes, but please be realistic. ICPC is meant to be a team contest, and I find it hard to believe all 3 of you were having a day day together. I sympathize with you if you were the carry of your team and had a bad day, but that is obviously not the way to approach team contests. There were teams in your college who either solved more questions than you (in which case you better not be ranting here), or just did it fast...

Codeforces Round #837 should be unrated? Today's problem B : [https://codeforces.com/contest/652/problem/C](https://codeforces.com/contest/652/problem/C) <br> Isn't it the case of stealing/copying a problem? The problem statement was changed only, the problem remains completely the same.<br> So will it be unrated? Or the copying rule was only for Indian authors?
Codeforces Round #837 should be unrated?, was only for Indian authors?

An awesome list for competitive programming! This is a project I started from late January 2016. My motive is that: Although there's fantastic information out there, I think they're still spread all over the place. Therefore, in my opinion it would probably be cool if there's an awesome list for competitive programming! ( It's now featured on the main list! ) I'm actively updating the list here: https://github.com/lnishan/awesome-competitive-programming Awesome Competitive Programming Awesome A curated list of awesome Competitive Programming, Algorithm and Data Structure resources. Created with a view to connecting people to information, this list below contains a complete collection of all the fantastic resources I've collected over the course of my 11-year competitive programming career.
