Browser support
Apple's Safari browser does not fully support the audio and video codecs we use on Wikimedia Commons.
We use software decoding to support playback on iOS, which can be significantly slower than what you might be used to. Unfortunately there is no way to solve this without changes to the hardware that Apple makes.

VLC media player
The free/open source VLC video player app may be installed on iOS through the App Store. VLC can play back our files if they are saved locally or opened in VLC using direct URLs, but these media are not yet conveniently played directly from Wikimedia sites.
