Commons:Barnstars

Remember, any user can give out barnstars!

It is the custom to reward Commons contributors for hard work and due diligence by awarding them a barnstar. To give the award to someone, just place the image on their talk page, and say why you have given it to them.

Some wiki-based communities give their users an award called a "barnstar", as a continuation of the "barn raising" metaphor. The concept of the barnstar as a wiki-award was created by SunirShah on MeatballWiki. Web designers were invited to incorporate a similar barnstar design into their project as Easter eggs.[1] Wiki barnstars were introduced to the English Wikipedia in December 2003 and Commons in February of 2008 (officially). Since then, the concept has become ingrained into the culture. They are a form of warm fuzzy; they are free to give and they bring joy to the recipient.

Wiki barnstars are really star anchors (not real barnstars), but we don't care.

While awarding a barnstar, remember to say why you are awarding it. The following are some of the barnstars and awards currently in use. If you don't feel any of these covers the topics you are concerned with, you can always design your own award (using these examples, if you like).
