Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). The Atlas of Economic Complexity[edit]
You have uploaded several images taken from http://atlas.media.mit.edu/ You did the right thing in seeking a web site with a Creative Commons licence, but unfortunately that's not enough. Most CC are acceptable, but not those with "nc" (Noncommercial) or "nd" (No Derivatives) tags. That site does not allow either one. Cambalachero (talk) 18:48, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- Cambalachero: We uploaded the images with the permission of the copyright holders R Housmann and C Hidalgo who created The Atlas of Economic Complexity. Hidalgo is my professor at MIT and assigned this task to my team. How do we get this rights issue straight on Wikipedia? Did I simply check the wrong box when uploading the images? User:Doubleodd
- As they are, the images can not be moved here, because the Creative Commons license at the web page is not compatible with this page. You can either change the page itself (that would be up to the webmaster managing the Atlas), or send a mail allowing different licence terms (see the details at Commons:Email templates/Consent). Which one will you do? Cambalachero (talk) 19:03, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- Seems fine. I will restore the images for some days. Cambalachero (talk) 20:41, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- Done, the images are restored. You have some days to fix the licence as we talked. If you have further questions, ask me Cambalachero (talk) 21:16, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
- QUESTION: Does the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 License suffice? Just want to make sure before we send the permissions email to Wikipedia. Thanks again for your help Cambalachero. Doubleodd
- Yes, that license is fine. You can see a full list of acceptable CC licenses at Commons:Creative Commons copyright tags Cambalachero (talk) 21:33, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- So the copyright holder (my professor at MIT) sent the required letter to the permissions team at Wikipedia and also changed the copyright on the site page. Thanks for your kindness in providing guidance to a noobie and helping us get this right. Doubleodd
- PROBLEM: I'm seeing a warning on the WikiCommons pages for the images that says "This file is missing evidence of permission". I can't figure out what to do. Please advise. The copyright holders changed the license on their site to the following: "The observatory is published under a Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License so feel free to share the site and embed the apps anywhere on the internet." This can be found at http://atlas.media.mit.edu/about/permissions/ The copyright holders also sent an email to permission-commons@wikimedia.org. The email said: "Dear Members of the Wikimedia Foundation, We hereby affirm that we, Alexander Simoes, Cesar Hidalgo and Ricardo Hausmann, are the creators and sole owners of the exclusive copyright of all work contained and generated by the website known as The Atlas of Economic Complexity. We agree to a Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 License. This will be posted on the latest update of The Atlas of Economic Complexity website (in the next few days). We acknowledge that by doing so I grant anyone the right to use the work in a commercial product or otherwise, and to modify it according to their needs, provided that they abide by the terms of the license and any other applicable laws. We are aware that this agreement is not limited to Wikipedia or related sites. We are aware that we always retain copyright of our work, and retain the right to be attributed in accordance with the license chosen. Modifications others make to the work will not be claimed to have been made by us. We are aware that the free license only concerns copyright, and we reserve the option to take action against anyone who uses this work in a libelous way, or in violation of personality rights, trademark restrictions, etc. We acknowledge that we cannot withdraw this agreement, and that the work may or may not be kept permanently on a Wikimedia project. As authorized by Alexander Simoes, Cesar Hidalgo and Ricardo Hausmann. All the best! César A. Hidalgo PhD. http://www.chidalgo.com | http://macroconnections.media.mit.edu ABC Career Development Professor, The Media Lab, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Faculty Associate, Center for International Development, Harvard University" Doubleodd
Done, everything is fine now. The files have correct and acceptable licences, and will not be deleted Cambalachero (talk) 23:42, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Note that in the english page ther's a typo : "Presious Stones" shld be "Precious Stones". I can't rectify it, the 'edit' for that page only shows a template (or whatever it's called) ; I took the text matrix from the netherland page (and used the english page to translate, I only do french and english).
Also it wld be more logical to not put a capital to "stones". Same remark for "products" in "Metal Products" ; "chemicals" in "Other Chemicals" ; "oils" in "Vegetable Oils" ; "treetops" in "Tropical Treetops" ; "agriculture" in "Miscellaneous Agriculture" ; and "fibers" in "Animal Fibers".
Also note that the "Legenda" in "Index-label = Legenda" may or may not need translating (I'd have to see also the english version to know whether it does or doesn't). If it it meant to be translated, just change it for "Légende".
Thirdly, about "Arbres tropicaux (frondaisons)" : I added the 'frondaisons' (means 'tree-tops', as opposite to the whole tree), in case that's what it is about. Take your pic at deleting it or not.
Wish you good continuation. If you want some French translation, just send me a msg here ; I can work fast if the cause is good (but don't expect total perfection if it's strictly technical : in that case I can only come up with 'slightly-better-than-average quality).
- Very cool! The team here at MIT/Harvard would be honored if you could put up export treemaps on as many country pages in French as possible. We love what you did with the legend. A few other people have picked up on the treemap project and are creating country treemaps in Spanish, Chinese and Dutch. The treemap generator at the Atlas of Economic Complexity [[1]] has a French language output option. We are trying to see how many people we can get to link to the Atlas of Economic Complexity, so we include a link in the caption for the treemaps we imbed. Doubleodd (talk)

Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Doubleodd. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Doubleodd~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
